Silicon carbide. It was first identified in a meteorite crater in Arizona in 1893, and natural moissanite is so scarce that essentially every stone on the market is grown in a lab. It is not glass, not cubic zirconia, and not a coating over something else — it is a hard, transparent crystal in its own right, cut the same way a diamond is cut.

Moissanite bends light more than a diamond does, so it throws noticeably more coloured flash. Some people love that; others prefer a diamond’s whiter, more restrained sparkle. It is slightly softer at 9.25 on the Mohs scale against a diamond’s 10, which in practice makes no difference to daily wear.

The real difference is price. A moissanite centre costs a small fraction of a diamond the same size, so the same budget buys a considerably larger stone.

Honestly: a jeweller with a tester will know in seconds, and someone looking closely in bright light may notice the extra rainbow flash. Across a dinner table, nobody is going to. Most people who choose moissanite are not trying to pass it off as anything — they want a large, brilliant stone and would rather spend the difference elsewhere.

No. Moissanite does not degrade, discolour or lose its brilliance with age. What dulls any ring is a film of soap, hand cream and skin oil on the underside of the stone, and that comes off with warm water and a soft brush. Bring it in once a year and we will clean it properly under the Care Plan.

Most rings can be taken up or down a few sizes, and we do that free of charge. How far depends on the design — a plain band moves easily, while a ring with stones set around it has less room.

Tell us roughly the size you need and we will confirm whether this piece can get there before you buy, along with the turnaround. One thing to know in advance: once a ring has been resized for you it can no longer be returned.

Not this ring — it is the single physical piece shown. But we design and build in our own workshop, so we can make the same design to order with a lab-grown or natural diamond, in whichever metal you prefer. Expect a different price and about three weeks. Start a custom piece.

Yes. Moissanite is not graded on the diamond 4Cs, so there is no lab report for the stone. Instead you receive a certified appraisal for the complete ring — the stone, the metal, the workmanship and the replacement value — which is the document your insurer will ask for.

On repairs: everyday damage — a bent shank, a worn prong, a loose setting — is what the plan is for. Damage severe enough that the piece cannot be restored to its original form is beyond repair and is not covered.

Benefits do not carry over between years, and the plan does not cover loss or breakage of the centre stone.

Yes. Free insured shipping across Canada and the United States. A signature is required on delivery, and we do not ship to PO boxes. We ship to Canada and the US only.

Within 30 days of delivery, unworn, in original condition, with the ring box, appraisal, care card and all packaging, and with the security seal intact. Each order is sealed at dispatch — a broken or removed seal means the piece is treated as worn.

Not eligible for return:

• Rings that have been resized, engraved or otherwise altered for you
• Custom and made-to-order pieces
• Final sale and clearance items
• Pieces showing any sign of wear — scratches, skin residue, a bent or stretched shank, polishing or third-party repair
• Earrings and pierced jewellery, for hygiene

All returns are inspected on arrival before approval, and return shipping is the customer’s responsibility unless the item arrived damaged or defective. None of this affects your rights where a piece has a genuine manufacturing fault.
